3 WAYS THE HOLIDAYS CAN WREAK HAVOC ON THE SKIN AND HOW TO FIGHT BACK

3 WAYS THE HOLIDAYS CAN WREAK HAVOC ON THE SKIN AND HOW TO FIGHT BACK

November marks the beginning of the holiday season...a time spent celebrating with family and friends, timeless traditions, and enjoying savory foods. But it can also be the worst time of the year for your clients’ skin. Think about it...they’re facing cold weather, overindulging in food and drinks, lack of sleep, and of course stress. But there are a few things you can do help them face these challenges head on, and make sure their complexion is something to celebrate all season long.

1. CHALLENGE: NOT ENOUGH SLEEP

So much to do, so little time, right? From party planning, to cooking, and shopping, so much gets added to the “to do” list during the holiday season. This often means late night multi-tasking. Translation? No one is getting their beauty sleep. Without proper sleep, skin does not have a chance to naturally repair itself. In addition it can cause the eyes to be puffy and red, and those dreaded dark circles just get worse. If a good night’s sleep is not in the plan, recommend products that naturally reduce inflammation and moisturize the eye area...and include brightening vitamin C...it’s like a good night’s sleep in a bottle.

2. CHALLENGE: STRESS

The reality is the holidays are a stressful time...which can create major issues with your clients’ skin. Breakouts, excess oil, dryness, and redness can all get worse due to stress. The best thing you can do is recommend ways for your clients to de-stress and take care of themselves. And maybe a professional facial too?

3. CHALLENGE: HOLIDAY FOOD AND DRINKS

Both sugar and alcohol can create major skin problems. Common side effects of overindulging in adult beverages include dryness and redness, while sugar can cause skin to age quickly. If they do go overboard, recommend products that focus on anti-aging and hydrating the skin.

Why Fall's Favorite Fruit is Also Good For The Skin

While apples are a lunchbox and grab and go staple (and they look great in a bowl on the counter in the salon too), fall’s queen of all fruits is also good for your skin. Read on and find out how apples offer some pretty beneficial solutions for a glowing face during the fall.

THOSE VITAMINS THOUGH…

Apples are full of nutrients that nourish and support healthy skin. Their high content of vitamin C builds collagen, plus copper helps the skin produce melanin which improves skin color.

HYDRATES THE SKIN

The juice from apples when applied to the face can balance the oil production in the body, and is great for helping hydrate the skin. It can also be used as an exfoliant. If your clients’ skin is particularly dry during the fall, consider recommending they add a hydrating serum as well.

A IS FOR ANTI-AGING

Studies show eating an apple on a regular basis can help with eliminating fine lines and wrinkles. Happen to have a few extra apples in the kitchen? Recommend rubbing grated apple peel on the skin as a gentle exfoliant. Leave on for 15 minutes and then rinse with cool water.

LIGHTEN UP

Apples have the ability to brighten and lighten the skin due to the high content of collagen and elastin. Soothing powers also help relieve redness and flakiness that can often develop in the cooler months.

How to transition from summer to fall with these skin care tips!

Welcome fall… cozy fires, PSL’s, sweaters and boots! But while we’re excited, your skin may be struggling with the transition. Combine cold weather with indoor dry heat, and next thing you know your skin is freaking out! As we head into the beginning of cold weather skin disasters… dry, itchy skin, redness, eczema… here are a few fall/winter tips that will take your sin from summer to fall.

1. HYDRATE

The skin’s antioxidants can be completely depleted by summer’s end, so think about fall as a time for skin and body renewal after the heat of the summer. This means hydration has different benefits during fall and winter. Consider getting a humidifier...it will increase the hydration in the air in their home.

2. DOUBLE CLEANSING

Fall is a great time to update your skincare routine. Consider discussing the Korean method of double cleansing. This approach is ideal before bed so they are washing away all the toxins. Double Cleansing products focus on first lifting dirt and grime, then washing toxins away, and are also helpful for acne prone skin and oily skin

3. MOISTURIZE ALL OVER

Cooler weather means it’s time to beef up face and body moisturizers. Skin may be dry and itchy all of a sudden...make sure you are using products that soothe. Moisturizers provide a protective barrier and retain moisture.

4. START FRESH

Fall is a great time to start with fresh skin. Considera a peel treatment which leads to brighter skin, and provides the opportunity to start over as the weather changes. Benefits of a peel include: Dissolves dead skin and build-up, reveals brighter, fresher, more radiant skin, smooths, softens, and refines skin texture.
